The 2025 #Bricklayer5000 soared to an unbelievable 9,690 bricks laid in a day
On March 14, 2025, we made history. Fred Campbell has officially set a world bricklaying record in Seattle, Washington, during the Brick the World #Bricklayer5000 competition. Campbell—owner of Creative Masonry, Inc. in Tusculum, TN—laid 4,130 bricks in eight hours, securing a new benchmark for the craft. Laying 4,130 bricks equates to lifting more than 14,800 pounds with his left hand and about 6,000 pounds with his right—a feat he credits to decades of experience and muscle memory.
Campbell, a multi-time national champion, was invited by event organizer Garret Shafer. The two competed head-to-head, with Shafer submitting the event to Guinness World Records for consideration. The format included eight rounds of one hour of work followed by a 10-minute break.
In the final results, Shafer laid a total of 5,095 bricks, finishing with an adjusted score of 3,045, while Campbell laid 4,595 bricks, earning the top adjusted score of 4,130 to claim the record. These adjusted totals reflect official deductions for craftsmanship and accuracy. Together, Shafer and Campbell laid a combined total of 9,690 bricks.
Brick the World #Bricklayer5000 was created not only as a competition but as a mission to showcase the efficiency of masonry and inspire the next generation of craftsmen. With the construction industry facing a decline in skilled labor, Brick the World aims to engage architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, and, most importantly, aspiring masons to help bridge that gap.
In addition, the event featured hands-on brick stations, presentations, BBQ, music, raffles, and giveaways. Thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, and hoddies. This event would not be possible without such a great community in the Pacific Northwest. We can’t wait to see who will be setting the record next year.
